Classic American Success Story is Celebrated by Unfurling the American Flag across North America
Swift Transportation Company (NYSE:SWFT) ("Swift") today announced a
year-long celebration of its fifty years in business. The company’s
founder, Jerry Moyes, his family and more than 200 members of his
leadership team gathered at the Phoenix Convention Center last night to
honor the man of humble beginnings who became the architect of what is
now the largest full truckload motor carrier in North America.
Along with messages from Arizona Governor Doug Ducey, U.S. Senator John
McCain, NFL Hall of Fame Quarterback Steve Young and several renowned
business owners, the Company unveiled two new designs for their fleet of
trucks and trailers. Both feature the American flag. One honors military
veterans. The other celebrates what has become possible for a homegrown
North American company, established in 1966.
In addition, U.S. Sen John McCain (R., Arizona) announced in a video
address, recorded earlier from Washington, that an American flag would
fly over the United States Capitol building in salute to the achievement
of Jerry Moyes and the success of Swift.
“My dad and I started this company with nothing but an
anything-is-possible attitude and the trust of our first vendor,” a
humbled Moyes said in accepting the honor. “I’m proud to say that we
have nearly 18,000 employees who believe that working hard and
constantly proving we deserve our customers' trust will allow us to
achieve any goals we put in place.”
According to Swift’s President and COO Richard Stocking, “Although we
have only reserved the new graphics for a few thousand of our more than
18,000 trucks, Swift Drivers currently cover more than one and a half
billion miles of roadway each year, so there’s a pretty good chance
you’ll see one on your travels.”
As part of the anniversary celebration, a short film was unveiled as a
tribute to Moyes. Chronicling the history of the Company, it highlights
the challenges and accomplishments of the business, while highlighting
the culture in which employees refer to each other as “the Swift Family.”
